Last year we renovated this apartment on the harbour. The client’s brief was to work within the existing envelope, retaining kitchens and bathrooms, but breathing new life into an outdated and bland interior. By introducing a new palette of contrasting finishes – spaces were transformed. We replaced damaged timber floors with wide floorboards in a grounding rich colour. This set the tone for contrasting light walls, layers of natural grass cloth, stained oak timber veneer and custom hand tufted wool and bamboo carpet. The painting in the living room by artist, Martine Emdur, was the starting point for this area and dominates the double volume space. We chose subdued colours that imbue a calm luxurious atmosphere, enhanced by the gentle sounds of the yachts moored below. Rich velvets, natural linens, wool and silk, timber and stucco provide a sophisticated yet relaxed backdrop to the clients collection of art and sculpture.
