Bennelong Apartment

An Elegant Backdrop

Situated in one of Sydney’s most iconic locations with views extending across the Opera House and Botanical Gardens, this apartment provided us with a wealth of inspiration and a unique set of challenges. Our client’s brief was to completely overhaul the space and create a home away from home with a sophisticated city palette – refined, elegant and considered, yet comfortable. Neutral tones with a focus on texture rather than colour were chosen to ensure that the subtle interior was the perfect backdrop to the incredible view – the blues of Sydney Harbor and greens of the Botanical Gardens.

We worked within the constraints of the existing shell of the apartment to transform the interiors. The original ceilings – at some points lower than 2100mm – were raised wherever possible to create a greater sense of space throughout. Fresh white paint – Natural White from Dulux – was introduced throughout, adding a fresh & bright atmosphere. The lighting plan was also completely redesigned to compliment the new layout and custom joinery. The palette included off whites and natural linen with accents of cafe noir and chocolate. The feature materials – luxe mosaics in the bathroom and waxed stucco finish in the entry hall – were chosen to reflect and enhance light whilst also providing a rich contrast. On the balcony, an existing mirrored wall was concealed with a botanic motif screen from Kif and Katast – the perfect subtle and sophisticated reference to the natural landscape beyond.
