It is always a pleasure to undertake another project with these delightful clients – our history goes back over twenty years and each time we have collaborated it has been a fulfilling design adventure.

The interior of this home, with direct access to a beach, was a little tired and dated, but essentially sound. This is a holiday house, for relaxing with family and friends – and dogs, so it needed to be practical. Our brief was to embrace the front and back aspects of the home – from bush to beach, in our choice of furnishings and colours. The rooms on the bush side are subtly nuanced to respond to the surrounding vegetation, and in the centre of the house, we’ve created a darker, moody ‘sanctuary’ with a playful edge.

In re-modelling the living area, we redesigned the kitchen and introduced a freestanding fireplace – introducing elements of blackened steel and embracing our clients love of classic Scandinavian furniture. The bathrooms were pared back to a simple coastal aesthetic and two outdoor living areas were created to address the prevailing weather.

We’ve achieved a home that is relaxed and peaceful – where you kick off your shoes at the front door and fall into an instant holiday mood.
