Every now and then Team H+K takes time out to get our hands dirty and to create. Wrapping up a wonderful 2014 we headed to Bobbin & Ink for a lesson in the art of screen printing. Laura Walsh – part of the sister duo that runs Bobbin & Ink – was our guide for the day.
Each of us prepared a design beforehand and set about learning the basics of setting up and printing a 1-colour print. We then put ink to fabric to produce a range of individual prints in tea towel, t-shirt and tote bag form. The best part of this day was understanding the process of printing on fabric – we are all fabric lovers – whilst feeling creative in a relaxed environment. With an absence of brief, a broad range of designs took shape, from abstract forms inspired by Alexander Calder to a recreation of one of the Hare + Klein Designer Rugs. And once we got the hang of it there was no stopping us!!
We finished up the session by collectively printing a few metres of Hare + Klein fabric.
