We completed this award winning home designed by architect Timothy Moon in 2009. Overlooking the Hawkesbury River, just 45 minutes from Sydney CBD, this beautiful rural property is set on 100 acres of working cattle ranch. ‘Sweven’, which means ‘Vision or Dream’ in Old English, was initially designed as a family home and is now available for short stays as a luxurious private retreat.
The house is constructed mainly using re-cycled Blackbutt timber, glass and New Zealand schist stone, so the interior furnishings were crucial to creating a sense of warmth and cosiness, especially in winter. We used warm colours and texture to create a feeling of lived in interiors, robust enough to cope with the rigours of farm life. The outdoor terraces connect to the interiors with a system of doors that slide away and are well-shaded. We furnished them as extensions of the interior with comfortable furniture and furnishings. The ‘Bameleki’ (Orient House) hats over the open fireplace in the living room break the starkness of the walls and add colour to the room. The dining table was constructed from a single piece of timber from a locally felled tree, and was paired with iconic Cab leather chairs from Cassina available from Cult.
The outdoor room won ‘Room of the Year’ in 2010 for House & Gardens Top 50 Rooms and Tim Moon won 4 awards in the 2011 Timber Design Awards.
