The Beach

It’s always a pleasure to return to a project with these long-standing clients. Our relationship spans more than two decades, and each collaboration has brought a new and rewarding design chapter.
With direct access to the beach, this coastal home was structurally sound but ready for renewal. As a holiday retreat designed for time spent with family, friends and dogs, the brief called for a relaxed yet practical residential interior. Our approach was shaped by the home’s dual outlook, from bush to beach, informing both the furnishings and colour palette throughout.

Rooms facing the bush are layered with soft, nuanced tones that respond to the surrounding vegetation. At the heart of the home, a darker, more atmospheric space was created as a central retreat, offering a sense of contrast and quiet playfulness. The living area was reworked to include a redesigned kitchen and a freestanding fireplace, introducing blackened steel elements alongside the clients’ love of classic Scandinavian furniture.

Bathrooms were simplified to reflect a pared-back coastal aesthetic, while two outdoor living areas were introduced to accommodate changing weather conditions. The result is a home that feels calm, welcoming and effortlessly liveable, a place where shoes are left at the door and the pace immediately shifts into holiday mode.
