We worked on the interior of this home approximately 24 years ago. Over time the owner’s family has grown, moved on and their needs have changed. It needed updating and opening up to bring in more light and a greater outdoor connection.

The internal planning modifications included ground floor living and dining spaces; kitchen, terraces and the first-floor master suite along with an overhaul of the interior fit-out and finishes throughout. Openings were increased and rooms more strongly connected creating better flow and allowing in more light. New large retractable sliding doors now open the living space with the semi-enclosed terrace that includes a new outdoor fireplace; thereby lengthening its use through the seasons.

Authenticity was embraced with new finishes; timber flooring, fossil stone and handmade tiles laid randomly. This approach flows through all aspects of the interior, including the sculptural hand-formed brass pendant in the dining room and the natural woven soft furnishings and furniture.

We were lucky to work with ‘can do’ builders who completed the project with a fine eye for the detailing. The consistent application of the original concept has created cohesion across every element of the project, in keeping with the owner’s brief.
